On Thurday, 15 Feb 2024, Google has introduced some new ways New Search experiences in EEA to search online, especially for people in the European Union. They did this because they’re getting ready for a new law called the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
For example, When you search for things like “hotels near me,” you might see different results now. These new results show more pictures and important information. Google wants to make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for and also to show more about the businesses you might be interested in.
A rich result is a special way search engines display information from websites. It uses structured data, which is like a special code on a webpage, to show things like pictures or interactive features.
This new type of rich result called a carousel rich result. It’s designed for when you’re searching for things related to travel, local places, or shopping. Each tile in the carousel can show details like the price, rating, and images from the website it comes from. You can scroll sideways to see more tiles from the same website.
However, if a website doesn’t have this special structured data code, you’ll just see the regular text results.
How it looks like:
Google Adding special sections
Google Adding special sections called aggregator units to our search results. These sections include links to aggregator websites from all over the internet. Aggregator units help users quickly find the top aggregator results for whatever they’re searching for. If you want to see even more aggregator sites related to your search, you can click on “More sites.”
There are different types of aggregator units available, such as for places, jobs, flights, and products. We’re currently testing the product aggregator units in Germany, France, Czechia, and the UK to make sure they work well.
We’ve also added something called refinement chips to help peoples narrow down their search. For example, if you’re looking for places, you can activate the “Places sites” refinement chip to focus the search results on aggregator websites. You can do this either at the top of the google results page (SERP) or by clicking “More sites” on the aggregator units.
The best part is, website owners don’t need to do anything special to have their sites included in these aggregator units or refinement chips. They’re automatically eligible.
Right now, this new carousel-rich result is available for travel, local places, and shopping searches. It’s currently being tested first in Germany, France, Czechia, and the UK to make sure it works well.
They’ve added some new features:
1. Carousel Rich Results: If you’re looking for travel, local stuff, or shopping, you might see a special way the results are shown. It includes things like prices, ratings, and pictures.
2. Aggregator Units and Refinement Chips: This is like a shortcut to find the best websites for what you’re looking for. For example, if you’re searching for a place to stay, you can easily find the top websites that offer that service. You can also see more options by clicking “More sites.”
3. Flight Results: If you’re looking for flights, Google has made changes so that you can see more helpful information. This makes it easier for you to decide which flight is best for you.
And the good news is, websites don’t need to do anything special to show up in these new features. They’re automatically included if they’re relevant.
