Recently Google release the New Structured data support for Product Variants, Google is making it easier for merchants to showcase their products by adding support for Product variants in structured data. This means that sellers can now display different versions of their products, like various sizes or colors of clothes or different memory sizes for electronics, in Google Search results. By providing this data, merchants can offer shoppers more options and better information. This google update is named product variant structured data.
To do this, websites need to organize variant products under a main “parent” product. Google has introduced a new type called ProductGroup and three new properties: hasVariant, variesBy, and productGroupID. These help group variants together and provide important information about each variant. Google is also providing detailed instructions and checks for both single-page and multi-page websites with variant products.
How to do it
Google has rolled out updates to Search Console, offering validation and error support for the new structured data related to product variants. This means that merchants can now easily identify and fix any issues with their product variant data using tools like Merchant listings reports & Product snippets in Google Search Console.
Furthermore, Google has provided clarification on when to utilize Return Shipping Fees or FreeReturn as values for returnFees in product structured data documentation. This helps merchants better understand how to represent return policies for their products.
For e-commerce businesses selling products with variants such as different sizes, colors, or technical specifications like memory sizes or processors, this update is crucial. It allows them to ensure their product data is accurately represented and optimized for better visibility and user experience in Google Search results.
